The table showed that: 47% Chinese people’s house is western style, 30.5% Chinese people’s house is new Chinese style and only 22.2% Chinese people still use Chinese decoration style.

This table showed only 30.5% Chinese people prefer Chinese interior design and over 69% Chinese people choose western interior design.

Q ： Hello Mr. Xu, please introduce yourself!
A : Hello ,my name is zhi nan xu , I am studying in doctor of urban planning and environmental science in Fu dan university . My research direction is urban planning and govern. And the topic of my doctor project is modern society ‘s thinking and understanding about Chinese traditional urban planning.
Q : So that means you have done lots of research about Chinese traditional design and urban planning , right ?
A: Of course, the topic of my master project was the protection of Chinese traditional architecture. I was the volunteer of three Chinese traditional architecture programs.
Q. So you live with your parents or you live alone.
A : I live with my parents
Q: What’s the decorative style of your house?
A : it’s actually simple Chinese style . It was built 25 years ago, at that time, the decorative style generally populated in cheap and more acceptable for elders. Besides, for my family, they much prefer Chinese style
Q: Which style do you prefer?
A: I prefer “new Chinese style “, In this style, the color is much more simpleness than before, and it includes the classic Chinese elements in it. The materials of furniture are more from nature, it’s much better than use chemical materials. On the other hand, the wooden furniture is more suitable for Chinese people’s artistic, and this style of decorations both have Chinese and western elements (Sofa). For example, in china, we don’t have the concept of sofa before, but nowadays, the western sofa can be placed in to a Chinese traditional spatial form.
Q : Do you have any traditional Chinese style furniture ?
A : My grandma’s bedside table , it has more than 50 years history .
Q: it’s made from wood or other materials?
A : Totally wood , it was made without any nail or glue , it’s the traditional Chinese wooden structure .
Q : What’s your views of Chinese interior design ?
A：No matter which time, I think Chinese interior design is the best in my perspective.
Q : Can you give me some reason please .
A : In Chinese people’s mind , we like to remember and miss our culture and our history . Besides, ancient Chinese people believed passionately in “the universe combines with human being”, we love to use furniture made from nature. Chinese people pay more attention on worker or designer’s manual level, we more like the things made by hand.
Q : : What’s the main difference between western style and Chinese traditional style?
A : the color of western is more aggressive than Chinese style , and in this age , the western style looks more modern than Chinese traditional style . on the opposite, the color of Chinese style is much simpler, even can say, it’s too boring and monotonous.
Q : Do you think monotonous color is the disadvantage of Chinese style ?
A : I don’t think so , the color has been spread over 1000 years in china , even until today , most of elders prefer this style , and they don’t like aggressive color .
Q: ? What elements we have got from western interior design
A : At first , some western style furniture has been introduced to china , for example , the electronic light or wallpaper , marble floor . These kinds of western style furniture brought convenient to Chinese people.
Q : Do you think these kinds of western style furniture will impact Chinese style furniture ?
A: Of course, It’s the combination of these two styles. For example, the marble floor, we can make it likes a Chinese traditional painting. The western style is the base of modern furniture, and we can add Chinese traditional features on it.
Q : Are there any specific areas Chinese interior design can improve ?
A : The main point is that I hope more Chinese young man can accept Chinese style .
Q : In your view , why Chinese young man doesn’t like Chinese style anymore ?
A : Because , I think Chinese young are more effective by modern western culture , even , they think everything from western is the best , they gradually forget the Chinese traditional culture . And also, their parents also think their children need to follow the western things, because the whole world is impact by globalization. In my own perspective, this sense should be prevented.

Q ： Hello Mr . Yang , please introduce yourself!
A : Hello ,my name is Zai Fu Yang , I am a primary professor from Donghua University . My major is interior design. And my research direction is similar as yours, my topic is “how to move Chinese landscape into interior design.”
Q : I am so lucky to interview you , so in your view , what is core of Chinese interior design .
A: In my opinion, Chinese interior design is the reflect of Chinese ancient manner culture . Designers always pay more attention on spatial rather than modelling. Chinese people always follow:” govern by doing nothing that goes against nature “.
Q : what’s the meaning of :”govern by doing nothing that goes against nature “.
A: By modern words, under the help of nature, you can do everything and receive respect, that’s why in china, Chinese style furniture is most made from wood, that shows how Chinese people love nature.
Q: What’s the decorative style of your house?
A: I am the big fans of Chinese classic style, but my decorative style is western style now . I have bought my house 15 years ago , and I have just redesigned it this year , the new house will in Chinese traditional style .
Q : So your family member prefer which style ?
A : I actually live with my wife who also likes Chinese style , and my son lives with his family , his house is new Chinese style .
Q : Do you have any traditional Chinese style furniture ?
A : Of course , so many , for example , porcelains are made from Jing De Zheng , this is the most famous porcelain producing area in china . And also my tables , chairs , shelves and even beds are made from wood .They have unique good smell .
Q: How about your son, he prefers which style?
A : He also prefers Chinese style , but he likes to add some western elements into his house , like western painting , he said , these new elements can make his house becomes more bright . And sometimes, he asks me to do some changes.
Q : What’s your views of Chinese interior design ?
A：As a Chinese interior designer, I believe Chinese interior design is the best world , as what I have said about the core of Chinese spirit ,but with the development of globalization , there are some new elements we can add into classic design .
Q : : What’s the main difference between western style and Chinese traditional style?
A : Western design focus on the practicality of space or furniture , but Chinese design pays more attention on house owner’s spatial world .For example , although most chinese furniture is made from wood , but different kinds of woods have different meaning and also shows house owner’s social status .
Q: ? What elements we have got from western interior design
A : In my view , the modern furniture is the biggest element chinese style can learn from western . For example, we used candle for brightness , but electronic light is more convenient and more practicality .
Q : Do you think these kinds of western style furniture will impact Chinese style furniture ?
A: Yes, I think it is, because such as interior design , we didn’t have this concept in the ancient china . we also didn’t have the concept of lots of western furniture, so in my opinion, add western furniture into Chinese style will become mainstream in the future. And this kind of style is considered as:” new Chinese style “ .
Q : Are there any specific areas Chinese interior design can improve ?
A : The main point is that I hope young people don’t forget our culture , and then learn something modern from western .
Q : Can you please give some suggestions about how to become a good chinese interior designer .
A : At first , as a chinese interior designer , you should remember not matter chinese style or western style , they both have advantage , and you can learn from every countries style .Secord , you need to understand more traditional Chinese culture, chinese culture has five thousands years history . Finally , stick to your own opinion, and develop yourself base on your original intention .
