Floor Plan & Interior design in Qing Dynasty 

Hui style architecture

Hui-style architecture is the representative of southern Chinese architectural style . The area includes several bedrooms , one big living area , one ancestral hall , several storages , several kitchens and one patio . The patio is the most distinctive .

Beijing Siheyuan style

Beijing Siheyuan is representative of the northern Chinese architectural style. Constrained by many traditional Chinese social and cultural factors, the form of Beijing Siheyuan embodies significant elements of Chinese culture. Designers usually broke up the whole big space into a lot of useful small space, called: “san jing san chu”

Floor Plan & Interior design From Ming Guo to the People's Republic of China 

In Ming Guo (1914-1948), people experienced the first world war and the second world war, western culture has been introduced into the Chinese, so the Chinese residential mode has changed to both high-rise apartments and detached villa. The left image shows that the designer has placed the patio inside the house, besides, more western elements have been used in Chinese traditional interior design.

From 1949-1990, People still lived in the same style apartment as Ming Guo. The biggest change was that people started to use more western furniture instead of Chinese traditional furniture.
