The improvement of master project

In the last trimester, my research question was: How to use digital tools to provide a learning platform for designers to better understand the characteristics of Chinese traditional interior design and the 'New Chinese Style'. But in order to make the topic closer to my major (interior design), after discussing with Dr. Tanja, and now, my research question is: How might a new typology for Chinese interior design lead to better integration of traditional Chinese culture in a contemporary context?

In ancient China, Chinese people lived in wooden structure house, and in 1896, when Chinese famous politician Li Hong Zhang went to America, he said: “I like everything in America, everything makes me happy. What surprises me the most are 20-story skyscrapers?” So, when he back to China, he has also introduced western culture into China, especially in architecture and interior design field.

During this period, concrete buildings began to replace wooden houses, more and more modern western elements have been used in architecture and interior design. Traditional Chinese interior design has suffered a strong impact by western interior design, and the traditional elements gradually disappeared.

‘New Chinese’ style

Until the father of modern Chinese architecture Liang SI cheng mentioned :  It is saddening to see a Chinese city completely loses its characteristics in architecture, Because this fact clearly represents the decline of our culture. Chinese designers began to rethink traditional chinese design .  after that , the ‘new chinese style’ was invented .
