Weekly Improvement : Week 1
What I have learned from the class...
This is the first week class of this trimester, in this week's class, Jacqie and Tanja have introduced the course's aims & assessments. After I understand the course's aims and assessments, I learnt about the stages for communicating research.

What is an exegesis ?

Introduction :
Poses a question or problem - What? if? then...
LITERATURE REVIEW CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORKS: Locates the research in the field of theory and identifies a gap in knowledge. Establishes interpretive paradigms. - who, when, where
MATERIALS METHODS: Provides rationale and outline of what was done to answer or investigate the question. - Why, How?
DISCUSSION RESULTS OUTCOMES: Analyses and interprets the body of work or artifact that emerged in relation to research questions and or the hypothesis/thesis. - What ?
In the introduction chapter - context, I am going to write my purpose first, what is my direction? And then, I am going to write about the background of the topic, the reason why I choose this topic. Finally, I will talk about challenges in my topic .
The improvement of master project
In the last trimester, my research question was: How to use digital tools to provide a learning platform for designers to better understand the characteristics of Chinese traditional interior design and the 'New Chinese Style'. But in order to make the topic closer to my major (interior design), after discussing with Dr. Tanja, and now, my research question is: How might a new typology for Chinese interior design lead to better integration of traditional Chinese culture in a contemporary context?
Timeline summarized




In ancient China, Chinese people lived in wooden structure house, and in 1896, when Chinese famous politician Li Hong Zhang went to America, he said: “I like everything in America, everything makes me happy. What surprises me the most are 20-story skyscrapers?” So, when he back to China, he has also introduced western culture into China, especially in architecture and interior design field.
Learnt from Western style



During this period, concrete buildings began to replace wooden houses, more and more modern western elements have been used in architecture and interior design. Traditional Chinese interior design has suffered a strong impact by western interior design, and the traditional elements gradually disappeared.
‘New Chinese’ style
Until the father of modern Chinese architecture Liang SI cheng mentioned : It is saddening to see a Chinese city completely loses its characteristics in architecture, Because this fact clearly represents the decline of our culture. Chinese designers began to rethink traditional chinese design . after that , the ‘new chinese style’ was invented .
