"北" (Bei) means north in English. In China, it represents the fire element in the five-element and its representative color is black or blue.

Case study 4 will summarize the advantages and characteristics of different styles, and combine them together. The target of case study 4 is to explore a new Chinese interior typology to satisfy contemporary Chinese people's living standards.

The fountain at the entrance

According to ‘Guan Zi. Water & Land’, Guan Zi mentioned: Water is the origin of everything, nothing can live without water, and at the same time, water can bring life and luck to people. (475 B.C.) Until today, Chinese people like to have water in the house. So in this design, it included three water areas: a fountain at the entrance, a bridge overflowing water, and a Chinese-style pond.

A bridge over flowing water

As the song literati Hu Hong said: “Water flows from a source.” (1140) so Chinese people like to have a source of water in the courtyard, and this means retaining good luck and longevity. Compare to the fountain, a bridge over the flowing water is the symbol of the traditional Chinese elements. Because I purpose to create a combination of Chinese and western styles, so I have placed a fountain to represent the western element and I have also placed a bridge overflowing water to represent the Chinese element.

Traditional Chinese garden

The Chinese garden design occupies a very high position in the history of Chinese architecture. it can be considered the symbol of traditional Chinese design. This garden provides a place to rest, and the owner can enjoy the view of the small pond . Compared with the western garden, the traditional Chinese garden is more the pursuit of spiritual enjoyment.

TaiJi Symbol

In the middle of the house, I have designed a symbol of Taiji on the ground, According to Zhou Dunyi 's“Taiji Tu Shuo”, Taiji is the symbol of the universe, it symbolizes Chinese people's reverence and worship for nature and the universe.

Inside rooms

Because the target of design is to serve the people. In order to satisfy contemporary Chinese people's living requirements, the multi-purpose room, bedroom, and living room were designed in 'new Chinese style. These rooms were on basis of the practicality of the modern western design and then added the traditional Chinese elements.

Beach

At the back of the courtyard, I have designed a beach for kids. I have lived in Australia for over eight years, and I found during holidays, Australian people like going to the beach, and this is a good opportunity for the family to promote the relationship.
