Interviews &Thinking about the studio practice
After the interview , this week , I am going to summarize the surveys data and the I have to think about the studio practice .
The data of the surverys
The table shows that: 47% Chinese people’s house is western style, 32% Chinese people’s house is new Chinese style and only 21% Chinese people still use Chinese decoration style. These data clearly show contemporary Chinese people like to choose western-style as their first pick. On the other hand, traditional Chinese style is gradually not accepted.
This table shows only 22% Chinese people prefer Chinese interior design, over 63% Chinese people choose western interior design and 15% Chinese people don’t care about the interior design style. But different ages have different aesthetics, so I divided them into two teams according to age, and every team has 38 people. The team of 38 younger people is called Team 1, and the team of 38 elder people is called Team 2.
In team 1, 82% people choose western style or ‘new Chinese’ style, only 5 % Chinese young people prefer traditional Chinese style. Team 2, in contrast, 45% people prefer western or ‘new Chinese’ style, 39% people still like traditional Chinese style. Although more people prefer western or ‘new Chinese’ style in team 2, traditional Chinese style is still popular with older people. All in all, these two sets of data straightly showed: as time goes on, Chinese traditional interior design gradually becomes unpopular, especially for young people.
The table shows that most Chinese people give traditional Chinese style more than 5 points. These data prove that traditional Chinese interior design is still acceptable, and it’s just being forgotten for some reason.
